The topic of his dissertation is Development of Solid Catalyst from Waste Biomass for Biodiesel Production by Reactive Distillation Method. The aim of the research is to obtain new types of catalysts based on biomass waste for biodiesel production by reactive distillation method. Heterogeneous catalysts have advantages i.e. easy to separate for the product and unreacted feed, high selectivity, reusable, and environmentally friendly because it does not produce waste catalyst. The synthesized catalyst technology will be used to manufacture biodiesel in reactive distillation, namely an integration procees between reaction and separation of biodiesel from product. Using reactive distillation technology will provide a new breakthrough in the production of biodiesel. The use of this technology will save operating costs and capital cost and can be used for biodiesel production in a continuous and large scale. In addition, the use of biomass-based catalysts will benefit, because the separation of product and catalyst can be done easily and quickly. In addition, the catalyst raw materials from waste biomass can be obtained easily, it's cheap, has a long life and more environmentally friendly.
Since 2007, he receive several research grant, i.e. Science & Technology Research Grant 2008 dari Indonesia Toray Science Foundation (Conversion of Coal Fly Ash into Zeolites for Selective Catalytic Reduction of Nitrogen dioxide), Program Insentif Riset Terapan 2007-2009 (The Develoment of Novel Selective Catalytic Reduction for Reducing Gas Emission from Gasoline Engine Based on Natural Zeolite), Program Insentif Riset Terapan 2010-2012 (The Development of Biogas Production from Waste Banana Plant for Household) dan Program Hibah Bersaing DP2M Dikti 2008-2010 (Utilization of Indonesia Natural Zeolite as Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) at Oxygen Excess).
