Title:

Preliminary-design of Biodiesel Plant from Palm Fatty Acid Distillate using Reactive Distillation

Outline:

Renewable energy has attracted more decades since depletion of petroleum-based fuel. Biodiesel, one of the renewable energy has been recognized as an interesting fuel that substituted diesel oil produced from petroleum. This plant use Palm Fatty Acid Distillate (PFAD) which is a by-product from refining crude palm oil as raw material of biodiesel.

Title:

Preliminary-design of Biodiesel Production from Algae Oil using Reactive Distillation, Capacity 500,000 ton/year

Outline:

Esterification using solid catalyst Amberlyst 15 Resin is intended to diminish free fatty acid contained in algae oil, while trans-esterification is the reaction of trygliseride with methanol producing Methyl Ester as biodiesel using Sulfated Zirconium as solid catalyst.

Research Title

Optimization of Silica Extraction from Baggase Fly Ash using Alkali Fusion Method

Research Outline:

Source of silica in Indonesia is relatively abundant both silica contained in quartz or in amorphous form. The production of silica from quartz sand is not economical and promising. One of the most promising methods to produce silica is silica extraction from biomass wastes such as baggase fly ash. Silica contained in the remains of biomass (plants) mostly in the form of amorphous silica.
